Moisturizing Shea Butter + Avocado Oil Lip Balm

Equipment

  • Pyrex Measuring Cup
  • Scale
  • Microwave
  • Plastic Droppers
  • Lip Balm Tubes

Materials

  • ½ ounce unrefined shea butter
  • ½ ounce cocoa butter
  • ½ ounce unbleached beeswax
  • ½ ounce avocado oil
  • 15-20 drops flavor oil start with 15, smell and adjust

Instructions

  • Place shea butter, cocoa butter, avocado oil and beeswax in the glass measuring cup.
  • Melt in the microwave for about 2-3 minutes. Please watch carefully as microwaves vary widely. You want the oils melted but not dangerously hot!
  • Add flavor oil to the mixture with your dropper and stir until combined.
  • Slowly pour the mixture into the lip balm tubes. Stop pouring when it reaches the top of the tube.
  • Let lip balms cool til just turning opaque. The butter/oil mixture will begin to shrink just a bit.
  • Now, using your dropper, top off the tubes with a bit more mixture, just to create a dome on the top. Do this slowly so it doesn't overflow and run down the sides of the tube. If it does overflow or make a mess, don't worry. Just let everything cool completely. Then you can just wipe or scrape off the excess. Trying to fix a drip while the mixture is still liquid will lead to a HUGE mess because the tube will likely fall over and... yep, lip balm everywhere!
  • Let lip balms cool completely, then pop on the caps. Cut out the LIP BALM LABELS and apply. Yay! You did it. Enjoy!
