If you’re looking for the perfect summery drink look no further! This Pink Grapefruit and Rosemary Gin Granita is cool and refreshing, tasty and convenient.

Pink Gin Granita

I dearly love routine.

Structuring my day helps me feel focused and productive and generally fit. Like all is right with the world. Whether I’m having morning coffee, typing out morning pages or writing in my habits journal, the routine helps me feel grounded and comforted. One of my favorite routines is Drinks at 5, when David and I stop what we’re doing and settle in for a drink and a chat. In the winter months we usually curl up in the front room with a glass of red wine or something bourbony.

In the summer though, when it’s warm and expansive, when days are full and 5 o’clock is a long way from bedtime, we gather on the porch with something “cool and summery.”

Summer Drinks

Some days it’s gin and tonics with a splash of elderflower liqueur. Or maybe a pitcher of sangria with loads of summer fruits. Rum, coconut milk and frozen pineapple whizzed up in the blender? Yes, that’ll work!

As long as there’s ice involved we’re on board. (I mean, summers in Mississippi are HOT!)

Our signature summer drink as of late has become pink grapefruit and rosemary gin granita.

We first ran across this recipe on David Lebovitz’s site. A particularly vibrant rosemary bush and a love of herbal liqueurs led us to this variation.

Made with gin, grapefruit juice, a touch of sugar and a sprig of rosemary, this summery drink is pink and delightful, tasty and convenient, cold and refreshing.

Since it’s made ahead and kept in the freezer, you’ll always be ready for a party, whether it’s just the two of you or an impromptu celebratio with friends.

The recipe for Pink Grapefruit Gin Granita couldn’t be easier

  • Gently heat the grapefruit juice, sugar and rosemary til the sugar melts. Then leave it to cool a bit so the rosemary can steep and flavor the juice.
  • Strain out the rosemary, then pour the flavored juice and the gin into a freezer safe pitcher. Give it a good stir and place in the freezer.
  • In a few hours the mixture should be slushie with granulated ice. (Because of its lower freezing point, alcohol won’t freeze solid.)

Drinks at 5, here we come!

Now find a beautiful glass that makes you happy, a partner that makes you smile and pour yourself a glass of this Pink Grapefruit and Rosemary Gin Granita.
